Artesunate Injection is used to treat malaria. Artesunate Injection contains the active ingredient ‘Artesunate.’ This injection works as an antimalarial medication that stops the growth of the Plasmodium parasite within human red blood cells. Artesunate Injection is mainly used for treating malaria caused by the parasite known as ‘Plasmodium falciparum’ and other Plasmodium species. It works by generating toxic substances within the malarial parasite. By this, artesunate injection effectively eliminates the parasites.

Uses of Artesunate Injection

Artesunate Injection is known as an ‘anti-malarial drug’ and is mainly used for the treatment of malaria. Malaria is a condition caused by the plasmodium parasite, which is spread through the bites of infected Anopheles mosquitoes. When a healthy individual is bitten by an infected mosquito, the ‘Plasmodium parasite’ is introduced into their bloodstream, impacting the liver and red blood cells. Symptoms of malaria generally begin to appear anywhere from 10 days to 4 weeks following the infection. These symptoms can include chills, high fevers, excessive sweating, headaches, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, anaemia, muscle aches, seizures, coma, and bloody stools.

  • This medication has the potential to trigger a serious allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you or your child experience blurred vision, chest tightness, confusion, cough, dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when standing up suddenly from a sitting or lying position, rashes, itching, hives or welts, hoarseness, swelling of the hands, skin redness, excessive sweating, face, or mouth, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or unusual fatigue or weakness after receiving this medication.

Storage Condition

Artesunate Injection should be stored in a cool and dry place (as given temperature given on its label). It should be kept far from the rays of the sunlight.
